The opening day of the Gold Coast Rugby Carnival saw the South Australian Division 2 Schools Rugby team take out the Tens competition, beating their Division 2 rivals, Northern Territory in the Final, 24 points to 12.
This year the Division 2 Australian Schools Rugby Championships are being held in conjunction with the Gold Coast Rugby Carnival with South Australia, Northern Territory and Tasmania competing against each other for the title of Division 2 Champion as well as participating against teams from Australian and New Zealand in the Carnival.
Former Wallaby, Barry Honan was on hand to present South Australia and runners up, Northern Territory with their trophies for the 10s competition and congratulated both teams on some great Rugby. South Australia defeated Te Wharekura 28 points to 6 and Morrinsville College 40 points to 5 on their way to the final while Northern Territory defeated Paeroa College 21 points to 5 and Fairfield College 28 points to 23 to join South Australia in the final. Tasmania started off the day with a loss to Inglewood High School (17 points to 11) but finished the day with wins against Te Aroha College (28 to 16) and Fairfield College (6 points to 0)
The first Division 2 match takes place on Sunday with Tasmania taking on Northern Territory. The full schedule of Division 2 matches is:
