UK TOURS–UPDATE ON POSTPONEMENT AND THE FUTURE

UK TOUR POSTPONED IN 2017

–TO BE HELD  IN 2018– THEN EVERY TWO YEARS–

Because of funding cuts by the ARU the Australian Schoolboys Rugby Team’s planned tour to the UK this year has been postponed to 2018.

These tours have been held every four years since 1973 and have been the source of many representative rugby players, including more Wallabies for these tours than from non-tour years.

The good news is that the postponed UK tour from this year will occur in 2018.These tours occur from late November until just before Christmas. Typically they have been for 8 or 9 games in recent years.

Prior to that they were up to 16 games over two and a half months—from late November until late January.

The very good news is that the ARU has agreed that they , as from next year, will occur every two years—thus doubling the number of players who benefit from them. These tours will be slightly shorter—with each one visiting just two of the Home Countries.

There will be five games—two as “mid week” preparatory games , followed by a Test in the first country—most likely Ireland next year. These will be followed by one “mid week” game and then a Test in the second country—for 2018 most probably Scotland.

Then Wales and England would be visited in two years after that in 2020.

The Home Unions are very welcoming of these tours and give excellent support there for them , although not financially.
